The Fourth (and last) Week

 Damn, all this time went by so fast. At this point I had really settled in and now its gone. I am super happy to be home though. I will miss Germany, but I was really missing Finland too. On the last week i did my work as usual, on tuesday evening there was heavy traffic on my tram line, so i was late to work ;-;, but im glad my mentor was super chill about that. I have to say that my work times made me really tired. I worked every day from 10-13 and depending on the day, I went back there in the venening sooner or later. On the last week I also did my community art project that we had to do. On Thursday I had to take my last visit to all the stores in Nippes. I did not sleep almost at all between Thursday and Friday night, I did my packing quite late and had all sorts of hassles happen to me that night. Friday was rough but once we got done with the security stuff at the airport and could just wait to board the plane everyone had a sigh of relief. We were almost home! Plane ride went swimmingly! I was so happy to see my family at long last.

This trip was really eye opening, and I am so glad I went. I am super proud of myself too, for going through with this.

The Third Week

 By the third week living in Cologne has became the standard. Everything starts to feel normal, but the end is slowly nearing. This week I could only work Monday and Friday. Tuesday through Thursday there was a strike on public transport again. I did not do much, I went to the stores a bit near our house. On Friday at work there was a special day where a lot of the students came in and showed their artwork. I could not understand a lot of what they said, but I still think it was really interesting and I could understand some of the meanings behind the paintings and drawings. 

On Saturday me and Miksu went to the central part of Cologne again and did quite a bit of shopping! Im gonna miss all the stores here. Later at night me and Miksu went back to the city center and went to a couple gay bars. Im definetly gonna miss them, we had such a good time! On Sunday we met up with 2 student from the school we visited. We went to the Dom and the bridge with lots and lots of love locks. After we went to a boba place and thats when Sebastian came along. Then we went ice skating at an ice rink. After that we said good bye to the students and we walked back to Nippes and went to a ramen restaurant, it was so nice!

The Second Week

 My second week in Cologne was full of new experiences. Work was a little rough this week, since I had to meet a lot of new people and I just felt really awkward and out of place. I was not that fond of the photo taking aspect of my work, it felt really invasive and honestly I was really stressing over it. On Thursday there was a test warning on phones and sirens outside and It scared me LOL. On Thursday at work i was modeling, I really liked it I think its very calming.

I really liked Wednesday evenings class, it was the kids class. I felt like there I could help the most and I like working with children.

On the weekend we went to the central part of Cologne with Miksu and Sebastian. We went to a couple stores, but otherwise just windowshopped, because if we went everywhere then it would have taken hours and hours. Lastly we went to an asian restaurant, it was really yummy! On Sunday I was hung over and stayed home the whole day and ordered Mcdonalds delivered to our apartment.

The First Week

Now it is Sunday, our first week in Cologne is done. This week wasn't easy, it was filled with many emotions. At the start of the week I was homesick, but my friends helped me get out of it. As the week went by everything started to feel more normal. We had a day for recovering and exploring after our arrival day, we had a look around the city center, it was very nice and familiar feeling, it was not all too different from Helsinki or Tallinn. On Wednesday we went to the school here, it was really nice, I wish we had more time at the school, it was really nice to meet the students. On Thursday our jobs started, I was quite nervous and I felt a bit out of place there, but as time passes by I am sure I will settle in. On Friday there was a strike on public transport so we couldn’t get to our workplaces. On the weekend we explored our neighbourhood in Nippes. I am excited for the rest of our stay.

The First Day

Hello! I'm Saga Nykänen and I'm a second year media and visual expression student at Eduko. 

Before the flight I was really nervous, I didn't get any sleep. I came to the airport like an hour before Sebastian and Miksu (my travel mates). Everything in the airport and airplane went really swimmingly! Once we got our bags at the Düsseldorf airport we headed off to the trains. We were a bit lost, but the sweetest lady saw us struggling and came to help us.💕

After our train ride we were finally in Cologne! We met up with our international coordinator. She took us to a cafe and we talked there about everything. She also took us to our airbnb, which I'm so glad about, because it was a bit complicated at first.

We settled in at our airbnb apartment and went to a store nearby later. I was feeling a lot of emotions. I was really excited, but also got homesick and cried a lot, but I was expecting that, because I get homesick really easily.

Well, that concludes my first day, definetly looking forward to the rest of our stay!
